Ammar Al Shari'ee was born in
Upper Egypt
in 1948. He graduated from the
Taha
Hussein
School
for the Blind in 1966, and went on to study within the arts and English literature division at
Ain
Shams
University
, also in
Cairo
. He additionally studied music at the
Hadley
School
for the Blind.
He has left many lasting imprints on electronic and lyrical Egyptian music. He has produced over 150 songs, including scores for numerous movies and radio and televisions series, as well as plays. His work is particularly devoted to children's songs, and to discovering and nurturing emerging talents. In 1980, he formed a band called Friends, which mixes both traditional and modern sounds.
He is a part-time professor at the
Academy
of
Contemporary Egyptian Arts
, a position he has held since 1995. He also has his own radio programme, "Diver in the
Sea
of
Tunes
," in addition to a personal television show on Dream Channel, "An Evening with Al Shari'ee."
