As all of us involved in publishing are aware, one of the biggest issues facing the industry in these days of widespread globalisation and internet is that of intellectual property and copyright.
Leaders throughout the Arab World are working diligently to ensure that the legislation and regulations protect these rights, and the UAE government in particular is strongly committed to fighting piracy and copyright infringement through any means possible.

As part of the publishing industry, it is our duty to assist this endeavour however we can. In order to do so, we need to remain abreast of the latest developments, theories and strategies, and in touch with current problems and solutions, which we can do through attending symposia such as the IPA Copyright Symposium in Abu Dhabi.

The IPA Copyright Symposium will address many pertinent issues facing us today, chief among them the future of copyright in the digital environment. Other important topics include copyright and Islamic law, collective licensing and global copyright trends, and I invite everyone involved in the publishing industry in the UAE, at whatever level, to attend this important event in order to increase knowledge and understanding of this important topic.
