The International Publishers Association (IPA) is a federation of publishers' associations comprising more than 60 organisations from more than 50 countries. IPA was founded in 1896 with an initial aim of ensuring respect for copyright and proper implementation of copyright laws worldwide. While the promotion and defence of copyright remains one of IPA's main objectives, its goals have expanded to include protecting freedom to publish, encouraging literacy and reading and providing a meeting place for publishers to network, exchange ideas and conduct business. IPA is an accredited non-governmental organisation (NGO) that enjoys a consultative relationship with the United Nations. For more information, visit: www.internationalpublishers.org.
